The geocomposite and coating can be design and construction specified to meet required applications; the outcome is an efficient, reliable, durable and cost effective liner performance for water proofing, chemical barriers and containment applications
One of the most important questions relates to the degree of effectiveness that is required. Currently to achieve a geomembrane which absolutely does not leak is difficult, if not impossible, and a realistic understanding of the consequences of minor leakage can be a key factor in achieving the desired outcome.
Further any liner that is to be considered must be cost effective; easily maintained and have a significant life (20 years). Current polyolefins, geomembranes and geofabrics have varying degrees of UV stability and are generally buried by earth to survive.
If left exposed, serviceability and maintenance factors need to be carefully considered to manage long term viability and effectiveness of the liner.
